UPJ-1P: Compact VariO Loudspeaker

Rotate the horn to change the coverage while maintaining the orientation of the cabinet.

The UPJ-1P combines the advantages of self-powered systems with the placement and arraying flexibility afforded by a VariO rotatable horn. Though remarkably compact and lightweight, the UPJ-1P produces a robust peak power output of 128 dB SPL at 1 meter, making it suitable for use either singly as a primary loudspeaker or in multi-cabinet horizontal or vertical arrays. Applications include A/V presentations, small- to medium-sized main sound reinforcement systems, fill, delay, effects, under-balcony or under-canopy coverage and distributed systems.

• Portable and installed audio-visual systems
• Theatrical sound reinforcement
• Front and under-balcony fill
•  Conference centers, presentations, ballrooms and houses of worship
With a 10-inch low-mid neodymium magnet cone driver and a 0.75-inch exit, 3-inch diaphragm compression driver in the high-frequency section, the UPJ-1P delivers uncompromising quality and coverage. A two-channel class AB power amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages provides a total output of 300 watts.

The UPJ-1P’s cabinet incorporates aluminum end plates configured with multiple M8 threaded inserts to provide all the mounting points you’ll ever need. The end plates allow direct attachment to third party pole assemblies. QuickFly rigging options provide unprecedented mounting, flying and arraying flexibility. And the optional RMS remote monitoring system module allows comprehensive monitoring of all key system parameters on a remote RMS host PC.

• Rotatable VariO horn’s coverage patterns provide for broad listening areas and precise narrow coverage
•  Exceptional fidelity and power capability in a very compact package
• Extraordinarily flat amplitude and phase response for tonal accuracy and precise imaging
• Constant-Q horn affords uniform response throughout the coverage area
• Predictable array performance ensures system design flexibility

The UPJ-1P horn coverage is imprinted on the horn lip for easy reference

The UPJ-1P was bred for flexibility: whether oriented vertically or horizontally, it can provide narrow, targeted coverage or robust, wide coverage, with a simple turn of the VariO rotatable horn. In size and weight, the UPJ-1P fits into the UltraSeries between the UPM and UPA. The UPJ-1P's low-mid section employs a 10-inch neodymium magnet cone driver, while the high-frequency section utilizes a 0.75-inch exit, 3-inch diaphragm compression driver of proprietary design. The VariO horn allows quick rotation of its 80° x 50° coverage pattern between horizontal and vertical orientations. The two-channel class AB power amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages provides a total output of 300 watts for the low-mid and high-frequency sections.

QuickFly: Truly Versatile Rigging

The UPJ-1P’s cabinet incorporates integral top and bottom aluminum end plates (made of heavy duty, high-strength, corrosion-resistant 6061-T6 aluminum) with threaded M8 attachment points for use with QuickFly rigging as well as third-party accessories, providing unprecedented mounting, flying and arraying flexibility. Available QuickFly rigging options, include: MAA-UPJ array adapter (also made from 6061-T6 aluminum), MYA-UPJ hanging yoke, and MLB-UPJ L-bracket. All attach easily and securely to the aluminum end plates allowing UPJ-1P to be mounted or flown, either as a single cabinet or in arrays. Strategically placed M8 attachment points allow simple mounting using eyebolts, as well as providing for use with optional pole assemblies.

A pair of MLB-UPJ “L” brackets allow the UPJ-1P to be easily mounted to a wall, ceiling, or floor and adjusted for ideal positioning.

UPJ-1P is designed for stand alone use in A/V applications and can be attached directly to third party pole mount assemblies.

The MYA-UPJ cradle-style mounting yoke suspends a single UPJ-1P loudspeaker and allows a wide range of horizontal and vertical adjustment. A “C” or “G” clamp is required (not supplied)

The MAA-UPJ array adapter provides a solid connection between multiple loudspeakers to form a horizontal or vertical array. The front adjustment slot is used to increase or decrease the distance between the front of the loudspeakers and achieve the desired angle between UPJ-1P loudspeakers. Eyebolts can be attached to the MEP-UPJ end plate or to the MAA-UPJ to provide pick-up points. In addition, the MAA-UPJ's rear pick-up holes can be used for additional support or for pull back to better control the vertical coverage of the array
